The management of Wagagai Gold Mining Company has given the Obwene’ngo Bwa Bugwe Cultural Institution 10 million shillings to help pay for bright children who come from poor families.
In 2021, the Obwene’ngo Bwa Bugwe Cultural Institution initiated the education fund program that intends to uplift academic standards in the area. In the program, they identify bright children from poor families and offer them scholarships so that they get further education.
The prime minister of Obwene’ngo Bwa Bugwe, Arafat Egesa, said during the funds handover ceremony held Obara House in Busia town that the support from Wagagai is to clear school fees of 90 children enrolled in different schools under the education fund program by the Cultural Institution for this third term.

He says that there are many bright children but their parents cannot afford to take them to school and complete higher level, most have resorted to smuggling, child labour, and girls cross to Kenya to work as housemaids.
Egesa, appreciated the management of Wagagai Gold Mining Company for supporting them especially in education sector.
Prime Minister Egesa, urged Wagagai Gold Mining Company to join the local leaders in changing the face of Busia so that it can be elevated to city status by developing infrastructures just like the oil investors who are in Hoima district.
James Sun, the Wagagai deputy general manager says that they have realised there’s need to support the education of children in the area as part of social corporate responsibility by the Mining company.
Manager Sun says that there will be continuous team work between Wagagai and Obwene’ngo to ensure they support the education of children from poor homes.
The minister of education in Obwene’ngo Bwa Bugwe Cultural Institution who was represented by Wilberforce Angajo Namwamba, the secretary to cabinate in Omwen’engo, says that they want to ensure that children get educated than practicing illegal activities like smuggling at Busia border.
