Police in Nakasongola have arrested four suspects over the murder of two people.
The deceased have been identified as Abdul Kitandwe, the driver of a vehicle registered UA 871AA belonging to Jambo Company and businesswoman Hellen Ambu, all from Arua City.
They were killed during a robbery attack that occurred on Tuesday between 4:00 AM and 5:00 AM at Bujabe Village along Nakitoma-Kafu Road in Nakitoma Sub-County, Nakasongola District.
Sam Twiineamazima, the Savannah Regional Police Spokesperson, explained that the deceased were attacked when their truck loaded with sugar broke down at Bujabe village in Nakasongola district on the way to Gulu side.
He added that it’s alleged the suspects in custody and others on the run, armed with Sharp objects, cut the driver together with businesswoman together before killing them and later dumped the dead bodies in the nearby bushes.
The police have since arrested Eleazor Nkubi, Julius Serunjogi, Meddy Kigozi, Ibrahim Mulepa, and Arnold Lubega over aggravated robbery and murder. They are all detained at Nakasongola Central Police Station
Twiineamazima said that on Tuesday, Yusuf Mugisha, operating a vehicle at Bwaise Lorry Park, was approached by Serunjogi and Kigozi to hire his vehicle to transport stolen sugar from a broken-down truck.
“Suspicious activity was later reported when the vehicles were seen moving in different directions near Nakitoma, prompting police intervention. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of four suspects over the role in the murder and the recovery of the vehicles involved, one of which contained blood stains.” Twiineamazima added
Police later recovered the dead bodies and transferred them to the Nakasongola Mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
The suspected murder weapon, a blood-stained knife, was also recovered from the deceased’s vehicle.
“Forensic analysis, including DNA testing, is underway on blood samples, the weapon, and other evidence collected. Investigations continue with outstanding efforts to apprehend the two remaining suspects, ” Twiineamazima added
In July this month, the Police arrested John Isoke after he allegedly beheaded his fellow farm worker, Herbert Ameir, a resident of Bujjumbura Kyanigita village in Nakasongola district and attempted to transport his head to Kampala city for sale
