Some members of NUP are angry and dissatisfied with the criteria their party’s election management committee used to select flag bearers for the LC1 positions, without holding competitive and transparent party primaries.
On Monday, at the press conference the EMC member John Mary Sebuwufu announced at Kavule that the flags have already been given out and made it clear that the party has its list of flag bearers whose names will be officially released on Tuesday.
He added what is now going on between Monday and Tuesday is for those who have complaints to send them to the EMC department at Kavule and members wondered what can be the basis for anyone to petition complaining about irregularities when the list isn’t yet out for anyone to know whether they have the party ticket or not.
Sebuwufu said the work had been too much and yet the EC didn’t get them enough time so members should bear with them and understand the difficult conditions under which they are operating.
He said the complaints to be received and handled are only expected from Kampala and Wakiso where competition tends to be too high and with a high concentration of political fraudsters who can try to extort money from those seeking the NUP flag.
Many foot soldiers who wanted to become LC leaders are scared and angry that the candidates’ selection exercise hasn’t been fair. This might once again create credibility problems for the national unity platform party where sex and extortion scandals have been cited before whenever it comes to giving out party flags.
