Five people have been killed and six others injured in an accident along the Kakumiro-Kibaale road. The accident happened in the early hours of Monday morning at around 1 A.M., in Kijanja-Kyakanika village, Kihumuro parish, Bwanswa sub county in Kakumiro district.

The deceased persons have been identified as John Nsimire 15, a resident of Igayaza in Kakumiro, Jowel Nsubuga 17, a resident of Kiganda in Kasanda district, Clinton Karamagi 22, a resident of Nyamarwa village in Kibaale district, Simpson Katusabe 25, a resident of Kisengwe sub county in Kakumiro, and Ivan Habiyale 25, a resident of Busesa village, Mataale sub county in Kibaale district. The accident involved a Fuso Truck registration number UAV 427D that was loaded with several sacks of Cassava and people.

Available information obtained by Uganda Radio Network (URN) indicates that the vehicle was from Igayaza in Kakumiro district heading to Matale sub county in Kibaale district at the time of the accident.

The driver who is currently on the run lost control of the vehicle and it veered off the road, overturning several times, killing the five on the spot.

Police picked up their bodies and conveyed them to the Kakumiro health center IV where they are currently lying pending post-mortem examinations while the injured have been rushed to Kakumiro health center IV and Mubende hospital respectively.

ASP Doreen Namayanja, the officer in charge of Traffic at Kakumiro central police station says, the hunt for the driver is ongoing. She adds that at the time of the accident, the driver was under the influence of alcohol and was driving recklessly. Namayanja has cautioned drivers against driving while under the influence of alcohol. The vehicle has been towed and parked at the Kakumiro central police station-URN.
