Five Held Over Murder of LC1 Chairperson in Mbale District

Police have arrested five people in connection with the murder of Moses Nabende the LC1 Chairperson for Bubirabi Lower village, Bubentsye parish, Wanale Sub County in Bungokho North Constituency, Mbale District.

Rogers Taitika the Elgon Region Police Spokesman says that three other people sustained injuries during the attack and are undergoing treatment.

Taitika says that three include; Wabiru Milton aged 51 and a brother to the deceased, Nabende Andrew, 21 years and Woboka Ronald aged 32. .

According to Taitika the attack occurred on Christmas Day at around 11pm. He identifies the suspects as Mafabi Rogers aged 40, Nabende Fred, 34, Wamboga Jackson, 38, Shisa Sam, 43 and Mafabi Christopher aged 51.

According to Taitika, Moses Nabende was in the company of his family members when bottles were thrown inside his house.

Nabende opted to move outside and find out the motive of the people throwing bottles.

Taitika says that he found a group of people armed with machetes, stones and sticks. The group reportedly beat him and his other family members.

He reportedly ran to his fathers’ house where became unconscious and was later rushed to Mbale General Clinic where he was pronounced dead.

According to Taitika, the deceased was also a campaign agent of Dr. John Faith Magolo the incumbent Member of Parliament for Bungokho North Constituency.

He also explains that it is alleged the deceased was attacked by a team from rival camps vying for the Bungokho North Parliamentary position.

Taitika says that statements have been recorded from relevant witnesses and the five suspects are detained pending further investigation.
