Police in Nakasongola District have arrested five people in connection with the murder of two individuals and an aggravated robbery that occurred between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. Tuesday morning at Bujabe Village along Nakitoma–Kafu Road, Nakitoma Sub-county.Savannah Region Police publicist Sam Twiineamazima identified the suspects as Eleazor Nkubi, Julius Serunjogi, Meddy Kigozi, Ibrahim Mulepa, and Arnold Lubega. He said one key suspect managed to evade arrest during the police operation. The victims were identified as Abdul Kitandwe, the driver of a vehicle registered UA 871AA belonging to Jambo Company in Arua City, and Hellen Ambu. Preliminary police findings indicate the two were killed during the aggravated robbery.
According to police, the events began the previous evening when Yusuf Mugisha, operating a vehicle at Bwaise Lorry Park, was approached by Julius Serunjogi and Meddy Kigozi to hire his vehicle to transport sugar from a broken-down truck. Later, suspicious activity was reported when the vehicles were seen moving in different directions near Nakitoma in Nakasongola, prompting police intervention.
Twiineamazima said subsequent investigations led to the arrest of several suspects and the recovery of the vehicles involved, one of which contained blood stains. Police also recovered a suspected murder weapon — a blood-stained knife — from one of the deceased’s vehicles.
The bodies were taken to Nakasongola HC IV Mortuary for post-mortem examinations, and the crime scenes were thoroughly examined. Forensic analysis, including DNA testing on blood samples, the weapon, and other collected evidence, is ongoing. He said investigations continue as police work to apprehend other suspects and verify the ownership of the robbed goods. The police, he added, are committed to bringing all those involved to justice and ensuring public safety.
