Fire has gutted a Gin factory in Arua District. The fire is said to have started at 10:00am due to a suspected electrical short circuit.

The Premidis Limited factory, located at Kuluva along the Arua-Nebbi road, produces Okapi Gin, belonging to an Indian Company, started operations in 2013 and exports its products to DR Congo.

One of the Indian workers and shareholders in the company, who declined to be named, said that by the time they rushed to the factory from Arua City, where they reside, the fire had gutted a large section of the factory.

Michael Munguacel, the head of regional fire and rescue services based in Arua, said that they were not able to rescue property in the main factory because there is no nearby hydrant.

It is estimated that property worth hundreds of millions of shillings was destroyed in the fire-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
