Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi has warned that any attempts to disrupt his campaign will face severe consequences, while also calling on the Electoral Commission to address challenges ahead of the January 2026 general elections.
Speaking at a press conference in Mbale on Wednesday, Mafabi said he and his team are prepared to counter any attempts to hinder their campaign. The warning follows Tuesday’s attacks on FDC supporters by National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters in Kachomo Town Council, Budaka District, which left several people injured. He pardoned those apprehended by police, citing it as their first offense, but stressed that future attacks would not be tolerated.
“We will not tolerate future attacks. Our team is capable of defending itself,” Mafabi said, urging NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu to advise his supporters against violence. Mafabi also raised concerns about the campaign’s logistical and operational challenges. With only 82 days to campaign across 144 districts, he called on the Electoral Commission to deploy staff to assess obstacles such as poor roads and disruptions by security operatives, which have caused delays in his schedule.
He emphasized that unless the Electoral Commission adjusts the campaign program to address these challenges, he will not hesitate to campaign beyond the scheduled hours, currently set from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mafabi expressed confidence in his team’s ability to campaign effectively until January 13, 2026, stating he entered the campaign trail fully prepared. “A level playing field is essential. We are committed to maintaining peace, but we will also ensure our campaign reaches every voter,” he said.
