Led by Councillor Nagujja, who wants to become female representative for the four parishes of Bugolobi, Nakawa institutions (MUBS, MTAC), Nakawa parish and the housing estate areas, several FDCs to whom Toterebuka Bamwenda had handed the FDC party flag for 2026, have decamped and joined Katonga-based PFF.
This change of heart, after FDC was found hard to sell to voters in Nakawa who see Najjanankumbi as full of Museveni moles, has created immense pain for a man called Mugisha Okwera who Nandala Mafabi put to be in charge of what remains of FDC in the whole of Nakawa.
Of all the many FDCs who Bamwenda at first had assessed and given party tickets for Nakawa, only Okwera is remaining for the MP seat with others like Nvanungi who wants to become the LC3 councillor, Leru Daniella for Butabika women councillor position and Namulondo Sylivia of Mutungo. All the others have decamped and joined either PFF or NUP.
Okwera is campaigning for all these jointly besides Ibrahim Kasozi who is their candidate for Kampala lord mayorship and Nandala Mafabi as their candidate for president.
In a related development, their overall boss Nandala Mafabi had the shock of his life when he was sidelined and disregarded in Rugyeyo Kanungu as PFF elders council member James Garuga Musinguzi was being buried.
Sources say that because Garuga was unhappy with how Najjanankumbi bosses mistreated his friend Kizza Besigye and claimed to be the owners of the party, his children and widow were in no mood to entertain the crocodile tears Nandala Mafabi and his FDC co-president Amuriat had come to shed.
Garuga is the man who donated Najjanankumbi to become FDC headquarters and was unhappy to hear Nandala and Amuriat undermine the role of Besigye in founding FDC, yet it was because of him that Garuga donated his property at Najjanankumbi.
He always made it clear to his wife and children that he wouldn’t have donated his building to FDC if it wasn’t for his friendship with and belief in Besigye who was leading the party at that time.
So, when he died, Nandala Mafabi came around trying to shed what the Garuga family members rejected as crocodile tears. At all saints Amuriat came around but he was totally disregarded though no one attacked him the way he and others did to Besigye when he went to Ngora in Teso to attend Sarah Epelu’s burial. Amuriat kept shrinking in his seat as no one bothered recognizing him.
He was even hurt more when mourners, the reverends and Garuga’s children kept praising Besigye for being a good friend to Garuga for such a long time. The leaders at Najjanankumbi celebrated Besigye’s problems of being jailed last November, yet at the Garuga church service the clergy and family members stood in solidarity with the retired colonel. This angered Amuriat to the point of shedding tears to show his envy and disappointment.
Amuriat coiled his small tail in the middle of his two thin legs and walked out of the Nakasero church without bothering to hang around to greet other leaders. He didn’t bother showing up at Rugyeyo for the burial and instead it was his co-president Nandala Mafabi who represented Najjanankumbi.
Nandala was totally ignored and the same happened to Busia mayor Sadiq Amin who came along with him besides two other officials from Najjanankumbi.
It was Thomas Tayebwa who recognized Nandala and mentioned his name after funeral organizers, the clergy and family members had totally disregarded him even when he sat next to Sir Richard Kaijuka.
When Tayebwa, who spoke last and read the president’s message, mentioned Nandala Mafabi the crowd heckled while shouting “dirty money, dirty money.” They made it clear they didn’t want to have anything to do with Nandala and others from Najjanankumbi which they said is full of traitors and Museveni money makers.
Nandala sweated and struggled in his seat as the congregation made it clear that they didn’t want him at all. He at least wasn’t molested and belittled the way he and his goons treated Dr. Kizza Besigye in Ngora Teso as Amuriat hater Sarah Epelu was being buried last year.
At Rugyeyo, Nandala had bought trees to be planted in Garuga’s memory but all this was rejected by the family and his contribution of trees was never announced anywhere on the microphone. All this made the embattled Nandala Mafabi to become wet and feel deflated as Garuga’s casket was being lowered into his permanent resting place.
He must have wished the ground swallowed him when the same congregation cheered key Besigye allies like Gen Mugisha Muntu and Salaam Musumba who read out the official Besigye statement from Katonga on behalf of the retired colonel who was unable to attend because he is in Luzira.
