Police in Katwe Kabatoro Division have arrested eight suspects in connection with the suspected murder of a 46-year-old woman, identified as Kyakimwa Topista, whose body was found at a farm in Rwehingo Village, Kasese District.
The suspects, comprising five men and three women, are being held to assist with ongoing investigations into the killing.
According to police, Kyakimwa was last seen on the evening of August 3, 2026, at around 5:00 p.m., when she left her home to buy foodstuffs from Rwehingo Trading Centre. She never returned home. Her body was discovered the following morning with visible bruises, suggesting she may have been assaulted before her death.
Police officers visited and processed the crime scene, documented evidence, and deployed a trained sniffer dog to help trace those responsible.
Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed the arrests and described the incident as unfortunate, adding that investigations are ongoing.
The deceased’s body was transported to Bwera Referral Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
Meanwhile, residents say Kyakimwa was last seen at Kabugho Grace’s Bar, where she had reportedly been drinking on the evening she disappeared. A resident, Amon Kapuru, said the community was left in shock after her body was found the next morning with multiple bruises.
