The Electoral Commission in Busia has cancelled the elections for female councilor representing Sikuda subcounty and Tiira town council over reported missing name of contestants and mismatching of candidates’ symbols.

The contestants for female councilor L.CV representing both Sikuda subcounty and Tiira town council are, NRM’s Jane Rose Akong and independent Ashepete Stellah. Their names were not on the ballot papers and there was missing symbol of a chair that was meant for the independent candidate.

Joan Aduru, the Busia district returning officer confirmed the cancellation of the elections for female councillors. She said that the elections will be rescheduled on another day for Sikuda to vote for their female LCV council representative.

NRM’s Jane Rose Akong, one of the contestants, said that they were surprised to reach their polling stations only to find their names missing on the ballot papers.

She said the postponement of their elections in the area is an added advantage for them to continue with campaigns. Akong appealed to area residents to get prepared for election as it will be scheduled by the electoral commission.

The electoral commission is yet to pronounce the day for the elections in the area where there was a problem.
