‎The Soroti Grade One Magistrate, Sarah Nantongo, has ordered the family of the late Dr. Godfrey Egwau to provide an authentic death certificate to confirm his passing.‎

‎Magistrate Nantongo ordered the family to provide a legitimate death certificate by December 10, 2025, to confirm Dr. Egwau’s death. She stated, “The family must present a death certificate to close this case. A letter from the LC 1 is not sufficient proof of death.” She stated

‎‎The law stipulates that if a person accused in a criminal case dies before a final judgment, the case is typically dismissed, thereby extinguishing both criminal and civil liability. ‎

‎‎‎ Dr. Egwau passed away on November 23, 2025, at the Kampala Cancer Institute. He was accused of malpractice following the death of his patient, Emmia Lucy Aluka, during childbirth.
