Christians in Rwenzori have been urged to embrace repentance, prayer, and sincerity in their faith as they begin the 40-day Lenten season.
This call was made by the Rev. Fr. Joachim Kihembo of the Diocese of Kasese during Ash Wednesday commemorations attended by hundreds of believers.
In his homily, Rev. Fr. Kihembo encouraged Christians to pray, repent, forgive, and extend alms to the needy. He asked political players to also use this period to make peace with each other since the election period has ended.
Meanwhile, Rev. Venerable Robert Zziwa, the Sub-dean of South Ruwenzori Diocese, asked believers to dedicate their time to prayers.
Zziwa asked believers that as they fast, pray, weep, mourn,n and carry out other activities during Lent, they should remember that they intend to please God and not any humans.
The Rwenzururu Kingdom Prime Minister, Kule Batarizale, said this the time for forgiveness and appealed to believers to continue praying for their leaders at all levels.
Jessica Biira, a Christian at Kasese Catholic Cathedral, said lent season is a period when she reviews, renews, and improves her personal relationship with God.
