Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court has remanded Bryan Kirumira, alias Bryan White, to Luzira Maximum Security Prison over charges linked to the death of 25-year-old Carol Nalubwama. He appeared on Wednesday morning before Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court, presided over by Sarah Basemera, behind closed doors due to security and health concerns.

Kirumira, 38, was brought in a white police ambulance, lying on a stretcher with alleged burn injuries and bandages. He bypassed the main courtroom and was wheeled directly into the magistrate’s chambers. Only police officers and the victim’s family were allowed inside; journalists and the public were barred. He faces seven charges, including human sacrifice, manslaughter, conspiracy to commit a felony, possession of narcotic drugs, and giving false information to police.

Prosecutors allege that Nalubwama sustained fatal burn injuries on October 22, 2025, at Kirumira’s residence in Kyamula Zone, Makindye Division. They claim the act was part of a ritual, with Kirumira’s co-accused—his wife Daisy Nalunga, Daphine Abaho, Naava Nakato, and Joyce Irene Nambalirwa—allegedly participating in the plot.

Daisy Nalunga, Abaho, and Nakato were remanded last week by Grade One Magistrate Teddy Nakawuki, while Nambalirwa faces separate charges of manslaughter and negligent conduct for allegedly failing to refer the victim for timely medical care at M. Mabirizi Nursing Home. The three co-accused are jointly charged with conspiracy; prosecutors allege they set fire to candle wax while massaging the victim’s body with petrol and ghee as part of the ritual.

In addition to ritual-related charges, Kirumira faces allegations of rash and negligent conduct involving combustible materials, as well as possession of marijuana, reportedly found in bottles at his residence. Investigators further allege that he and his co-accused gave police false accounts of how the victim sustained her injuries, initially claiming a gas cylinder accident. Police also recovered grass-thatched structures at his home suspected to be shrines.

Bryan White’s appearance today follows a dramatic court session on November 14, 2025, when he was brought in too weak to stand or sit. Magistrate Lorna Patience Mukundane had ordered him returned to Mildmay Hospital for treatment after he cried out for medical assistance. The co-accused were remanded separately ahead of today’s proceedings.

After Wednesday’s hearing, Magistrate Basemera remanded Bryan White to Luzira Prison until December 18, 2025, when he and his co-accused will return for an update on ongoing investigations. Nalubwama’s family has publicly rejected explanations offered by Kirumira, insisting that a full investigation be conducted. Police said they are reviewing CCTV footage and other evidence to establish the exact sequence of events that led to her death.

Kirumira, who previously faced legal troubles including an attempted murder case in 2017 and fraud-related arrests in 2020, remains under tight police supervision. Those earlier charges were withdrawn.
