Brig Gen Paddy Ankunda, the Assistant Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security for Defence Engagement and International Affairs, has extolled Defence Attaches and Advisors to Uganda from the different countries for strengthening military cooperation.
Brig Gen Ankunda said UPDF has gained a lot from the attaches and advisors from the different countries. Amkunda said their Defence Attachés and Advisors accredited to Uganda have promoted defence diplomacy and built stronger military partnerships.
“Your work continues to strengthen the bonds of friendship and strategic collaboration that unite our nations,” Brig Gen Ankunda told the attachés. UPDF has in recent times had several military visits from key countries such as the UK, the US, Russia, Egypt and Algeria.
UPDF military cooperation has helped Uganda get several doses of FMD vaccine from Egypt, and it was through the Defence Attaches and Advisors that a forensic University was established in Uganda by the government of India.
Brig Gen Ankunda noted that such engagements help review progress and create opportunities for greater cooperation. Brig Gen Ankunda remarked during a routine security briefing at the Defence Intelligence and Security headquarters in Mbuya.
Brig Gen Ankunda represented Maj Gen Richard Otto, the Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security. Ankunda reaffirmed the UPDF’s commitment to advancing national security through defence diplomacy and underscored the vital role of attachés in fostering mutual understanding and shared values among security forces.
Col Patrick Nkaduda, who spoke on behalf of the Defence Attachés Association, thanked the UPDF leadership for hosting the briefing. “I want to take this opportunity to appreciate the UPDF leadership for making this possible. We do not take it for granted, and we hope this engagement continues as we forge a way forward together,” Col Nkaduda said.
Col Nkaduda reiterated the attachés’ commitment to working closely with the UPDF and deepening their understanding of security matters, pledging continued cooperation to strengthen ties between their countries and Uganda.
