Blocking Hon Martin Ssejjemba: Here’s how the state is plotting to lock NUP out of Mawokota south MP Race

By KT Reporter

NUP is fronting Martin Ssejjemba, the Mpigi district chairman, for Mawokota south MP seat. Even when he is out on bail from prison after being charged with corruption and extortion, Ssejjemba is being chosen out of the many who applied for the seat.

Because they are determined to make sure that NRM’s Suzan Nakawuki wins, people inside government are determined to stand in Ssejjemba’s way and this is part of Museveni’s plan to reduce the number of NUP MPs from Buganda. The current MP Yusuf Nsibambi of FDC won in 2021 because he had support of Kyagulanyi.

Potters inside the state are determined to make sure that after getting the NUP flag, Ssejjemba is frustrated at the last minute not to be nominated. The government spies from SHACU and police CID have a lot of evidence against Ssejjemba who recently was arrested for working with members of Mpigi district service commission to extort money from young graduates promising them jobs which they never gave them.

Ssejjemba was tricked by undercover detectives SHACU and CID who had been sent to his office, to negotiate to buy jobs from the district service commission. He was recorded negotiating and receiving the money. After giving him the money and recording audios of him negotiating, the men introduced themselves to Ssejjemba as SHACU operatives who state house had sent to arrest him. Ssejjemba sweated plasma before wetting his pants with susu.

He was handed over to CID detectives at Mpigi police station. These made him make a statement but he cried to them saying he was ready to give them money to be released in return. SHACU uses police to record statement to process suspects for court.

The police CIDs at Mpigi pretended to have accepted Ssejjemba’s offer on grounds that he tells the truth. Without knowing he was being recorded, Ssejjemba owned up to the crime and suggested to give detectives money to give him a police bond and help in destroying investigations to exonerate him.

They gave him one condition-putting his confession in writing and signing the police statement. Having obtained both the written signed statement and the audio recording, these drove Ssejjemba to Kampala CPS and told him they had orders from above to take him there. He spent several nights at CPS Kampala before being remanded by the magistrate to Kigo where he stayed for three weeks.

NUP head offices got involved by trusting Simon Peter Kawuki to go and fight for Ssejjemba’s rights but he failed to achieve much when the state prosecutor showed court that he lacked the practicing certificate as a lawyer. Bobi Wine was careful not to be seen posting things to defend Ssejjemba fearing to be criticized for defending corruption in Mpigi local government.

Some NUP supporters had raised 10m to be used to bribe the system to get Ssejjemba out but the NUP head offices discouraged that and made it clear that no magistrate was going to ever accept to be bribed now that Museveni pays them well. Much later on, the NUP secretary general Rubongoya deployed new party lawyer Jonathan Erutu who went and fought for Ssejjemba’s release on bail.

In releasing him on bail and allowing him to resume normal political activities, the state set a trap for NUP to give Ssejjemba their flag and get re-arrested thereafter on new charges so that he is unable to get nominated.

That will make it possible for NRM’s Suzan Nakawuki to confuse the youths in Mawokota south’s towns like Kayabwe, Nkozi and Buwama so that they end up voting for her in absence of a NUP candidate.

NRM strategists know that Yusuf Nsibambi, who recently beat up a boda rider during Kayima Sarah Nanono’s meeting at Nakibanga, has become very unpopular and can’t be re-elected because of unfulfilled promises.

Nsibambi is also choking on debts which reach into billions, which is why even Nandala Mafabi’s IPOD money won’t save him. So, the NRM people are only scared of NUP and their plan is to wait for Ssejjemba to get the NUP flag and come up with new corruption charges and re-arrest him on the nomination eve so that he can’t be nominated by the EC to carry the NRM flag.

It’s true he can be nominated in absentia but the state operatives have planned to act in a way that he gets arrested and blocked just a few hours to closure of the nomination exercise on the last day. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
