Arua Resident City Commissioner (RCC), Betty Otekat Akello, has issued a stern warning to the public about the dangers of circulating false information on social media platforms.
The RCC’s warning comes in response to social media posts on TikTok claiming that NRM presidential candidate Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is ill and will not continue with his campaigns in West Nile.
She cautioned social media users against spreading misinformation and clarified that her office has been notified of the false information.
This allegation coincides with an announcement by the NRM party to adjust its presidential campaign programs in West Nile. Richard Todwong Awany, the NRM Secretary General, in a letter dated October 8, 2025, stated that the adjustments are intended to enable campaigns to run effectively and in an organised manner.
“The date changes have been coordinated and aligned by the national Electoral Commission to ensure an organised and effective campaign program in the region,” Todwong stated. Museveni launched his West Nile campaign on Tuesday afternoon, October 7, 2025, with the first rally held in Packwach District after concluding a rally in Oyam District.
In the newly released campaign program for West Nile, the rallies in Nebbi and Zombo Districts are scheduled for Saturday, October 11, 2025, while the rally in Arua City has been shifted to Monday next week instead of Friday. The party’s presidential campaign in the region is expected to conclude on Monday, October 20, 2025, in Adjumani District.
