Police have arrested an anaesthetic officer at Amudat Hospital for allegedly stealing government medicines worth an undisclosed amount. The suspect was arrested at 4:00 a.m. on June 5, 2026, after hospital security saw him leaving the premises with a sack.
Guards and a nurse on duty trailed him to his residence in the nurses’ quarters, recovered assorted medical supplies, and alerted hospital management. Police responded, arrested the suspect, and opened a case of theft of government medicine under Amudat CRB 039/2026.
Mt Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson, Mike Longole, confirmed the arrest and identified the suspect as Alex Chemayek, 42, an Anaesthetic Officer at Amudat Hospital.
Recovered items exhibited by police include: eight bottles of Sodium Chloride (Normal Saline), one bottle of Ringer’s Lactate, one box of Malaria Rapid Diagnostic Test kits, one box of surgical gloves, 20 pieces of Ceftriaxone injection, and two bundles of Zinc Oxide.
“Statements have been obtained from witnesses, and the scene was documented,” Longole said. Police are still establishing the value of the recovered medicines and will submit the case file to the Resident State Attorney for legal advice.
“We commend the vigilance of the hospital security and staff that led to the quick recovery of the medicines,” Longole added. He said police will continue working with hospital management to safeguard medical supplies meant for patients. Investigations are underway to establish the motive and whether a racket is involved-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
