‎‎Former Trade, Industry and Co-operatives Minister Amelia Kyambadde and Singh Katongole, formerly Head Entrepreneurs League in the NRM, have won the primary polls in their respective constituencies.

‎‎Kyambadde, who was beaten to the Mawokota North seat in 2021, beat Sam Akol, her only challenger. Akol had earlier announced to the media that he had withdrawn from the race, citing armed intimidation of voters.

‎‎However, the Mpigi District returning officer, Francis Bbunye, said Akol didn’t fulfil the withdrawal process, and therefore could not be struck off the list of contestants.

‎‎In Rubaga Division in Kampala, Katongole beat four others, having polled 6,690 votes, followed by Isaak Lwanga with 683, and three others, as Robert Kato, the Returning Officer, announced.

‎‎In Rubaga South, it was an easy task for Rubaga Division Speaker, Musa Mbaziira, beating lawyer Derick Lufunya, having polled 20,148 to 1,233.

‎The tallying exercise was constantly interrupted by agents who were making wrong declarations.

‎‎However, the elections team handled most of the complaints there and then, explaining the differences in the Declaration of Results forms held by them and those by the agents.

‎‎At one moment, Hadijah Namyalo threatened violence against the agents who were increasingly becoming irritated, amidst the increasing number of police officers at the tallying centre at Mengo-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
