The Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court has remanded human rights activist Aloikin Praise Opoloje to Luzira Prison on charges of using another person’s SIM card.
The 27-year-old Aloikin on Monday appeared before Senior Principal Grade One Magistrate Winnie Nankya Jatiko, where she was charged with one count. The resident of Namungoona in Rubaga Division, Kampala District, Aloikin was charged with using another person’s SIM card, contrary to Regulation 29 of the Regulation of Interception of Communications Regulations, 2024.
According to the charge sheet, it is alleged that in September 2026, in Rubaga and Kampala Central divisions or surrounding areas, Aloikin unlawfully used an MTN SIM card, 0770-955341, registered in the name of Martha Nalapa Tasima, allegedly for purposes of executing illegal activity.
The records before the court indicate that the case follows investigations into social media activity on an account in Aloikin’s name.
It is alleged that Sargent Titus Mucunguzi from the Defense Intelligence and Security (DIS), formerly known as the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence, during September 2026 came across published information on social media concerning the Chief of Defense Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and it was later discovered that the SIM card used to post was in the name of Nalapa but in the possession of Aloikin.
The material allegedly included photographs and accompanying commentary full of vulgar speech, among which the Chief of Defense Forces was described as a cabbage, among other insults hurled against him.
In the contentious clip, Aloikin is seen asking for justice to be served and excluded at least from the people who fear General Kainerugaba, whom she alleged was sanctioning several abductions and human rights violations in the country.
In September 2024, Aloikin and two others were charged with common nuisance following a nude she staged together with Norah Kobusingye and Kemitoma Kyenzibo. This was her first time at Buganda Road Court.
The prosecution alleged that on September 2, 2024, at Parliamentary Avenue, Kobusingye, Kyenzibo, and Aloikin, along with others still at large, staged a protest in the middle of the road while partially undressed and with messages written on their bodies.
Prosecutors argue that this act, unauthorized by law, caused public annoyance, obstruction, and inconvenience. Her troubles started when, together with her friends took to the streets to protest the rampant corruption in the country and called for the resignation of the then Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among.
They were intercepted by the police as they marched to parliament. Aloikin, who was wearing only a French nicker and her breasts painted in national colors- black, yellow, and red holding a placard against corruption, was sent to prison for some time until people, who included Makerere University Law Dons, came to stand surety for her.
She has, however, denied today’s charges and has been remanded until October 14th 2026, when her lawyers, led by Kakuru Tumusiime, will be ready to apply for her bail.
She was arrested over the weekend after being duped by detectives into believing she was needed at the police station to solve issues that were related to taking a carpet from a washing site that didn’t belong to her.
