Police in Mbale City are holding two suspects in over the murder of a senior two student of Nkoma Secondary School. The deceased has been identified as Yazidi Namugere.

The two suspects under arrest are Amisi Kandi and Sematimba Arafat.

Rogers Taitika, the Elgon Region Police Spokesman says that a reveler was driving home from Oak bar, a popular night spot in Mbale City at about 4:00am and on his way along Nabuyonga Rise near Nabuyonga Bridge, he met a group of about six men carrying a man who they were assaulting.

The group had apparently already undressed the victim. According to Taitika, the reveler who stopped his car asked the group to put the victim down but the group declined and instead accused the victim of stealing a Tecno Povia smart phone belonging to one of them.

The group after assaulting Yazidi Namugere claimed they were taking him to their area local council chairperson. Taitika explains that the reveler called the Officer in Charge, Central Police Station, Mbale City who sent Police officers to rescue Namugere.

Two of the suspects were arrested while Namugere was rushed to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for treatment. Taitika says that Namugere was later pronounced dead. He says that the deceased bore fresh wounds on the head and a torn yellow shirt was found at the scene.
