The Kasana-Luweero Diocese will celebrate only one Holy Mass across all its parishes on Sunday, December 28, 2025, Bishop Rt. Rev. Lawrence Mukasa has decreed. The Mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima, Queen of Peace Cathedral in Kasana, Luwero Town Council, Luwero District, beginning at 10:00 a.m.Ordinarily, multiple Masses are held at the Cathedral and across the Diocese’s 32 parishes, which cover Luwero, Nakaseke, and Nakasongola districts. At Kasana Cathedral alone, two Masses are typically held, at 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.According to a circular titled “Solemn Closure of the Holy Year”, dated November 19, 2025, and signed by the Diocesan Pastoral Coordinator, Rev. Fr. Dr. Cyril Kasigwa Sande, all parish Masses will be suspended on that day. The letter, addressed to clergy, religious men and women, and all the faithful, indicates that the Solemnity of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph will mark the formal closure of the Holy Jubilee Year 2025 and all related celebrations.Fr. Kasigwa urged the faithful to converge at Kasana Cathedral and arrive early for confessions and personal prayer ahead of the 10:00 a.m. Mass. Parish Executive Secretaries have been instructed to formally communicate the directive to parishioners. This is not the first time the Diocese has suspended parish Masses for a single diocesan celebration. On December 29, 2024, all Masses across the Diocese were similarly suspended to allow a single diocesan Mass in anticipation of the Jubilee Year launch, attended by priests, religious, and lay faithful. The 2025 Jubilee Year was formally inaugurated by Pope Francis on Christmas Eve, 2024, with the symbolic opening of the Holy Door at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. The Jubilee runs until January 6, 2026, and is traditionally observed every 25 years, emphasizing forgiveness, reconciliation, conversion, and spiritual renewal. The 2025 Jubilee, themed “Pilgrims of Hope”, calls on the faithful to foster hope amid global challenges, including war, the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the climate crisis. It also commemorates the 2,025th anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ.Bishop Joseph Anthony Zziwa, Chairperson of the Uganda Episcopal Conference, directed all dioceses to prepare Jubilee pastoral programs. In Kasana-Luweero Diocese, Bishop Mukasa marked the opening of the Jubilee Year by ceremonially opening the main entrance of Kasana Cathedral on December 29, 2024, while all other doors remained closed. Pilgrims processed into the Cathedral with lit candles, symbolizing their faith journey, while priests administered the Sacrament of Reconciliation.Throughout the Jubilee Year, parishes and diocesan institutions have undertaken organized pilgrimages to Kasana Cathedral, celebrated the Eucharist, and contributed to the Bishop’s pastoral campaign for parish development. A major highlight was a diocesan pilgrimage to Rome in July, attended by 241 pilgrims representing the Diocese. As the Jubilee Year draws to a close, the Diocese now prepares to gather as one family of faith at Kasana Cathedral for this historic and solemn celebration.
