By KT Reporter

President Yoweri Museveni has asked people in Kibaaale district to embrace wealth creation programs and fight poverty in their households.

Museveni, while addressing a rally at Buyanja secondary school playground in Kibaale town council on Tuesday afternoon, noted that while the government provides a conducive environment through peace and infrastructure, the people of Kibaale should equally take the initiative to create wealth in their homes.

He said they should take advantage of the prevailing peace to work hard and enhance their household incomes by participating in all the available wealth creation programs initiated by the government.

Museveni stated that whereas roads, electricity, schools, and hospitals were once seen as primary indicators of progress, true transformation and development come through wealth creation.

He explained that leaders in Bunyoro should be sensitising citizens to get out of poverty through commercial agriculture.

President Museveni has further advised the people of Bunyoro to jealously embrace the four-acre model farming method, which he said will unlock economic opportunities and ensure sustainable livelihoods for communities across Uganda.

Museveni says that the four-acre model is very crucial since it advocates for land diversification, where he said an acre of land should be dedicated to coffee cultivation, another to fruit trees, the third to staple crops for household consumption, and the fourth to pasture for livestock.

Museveni explains that this farming model will also allow farmers to engage in poultry, piggery, and fish farming in ponds, boosting household incomes and lifting families out of poverty in a short period. Museveni has also cautioned the people of Bunyoro to desist from engaging in tribal and religious politics, warning that such tendencies are dangerous and divisive.

He attributed the peace and development under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government to its commitment to good politics, which promotes unity among all tribes and religions.

Museveni says anybody who talks about tribes and religions in politics is an enemy of the country and therefore should not be tolerated at all. He says the contribution of NRM to Uganda is, first and foremost, peace, and peace came from good politics, adding that politics based on tribalism and religious sectarianism should not be tolerated in the country.

President Museveni explained that such tribal and religious frictions are dangerous and can divide and destroy any given country.

President Museveni encouraged the youths to make use of the existing government programs, such as the Emyooga at the sub-county level, Youth Livelihood, and the Parish Development Model, aimed at getting them out of poverty. They should equally embrace hard work to boost their household income.

He says the country cannot achieve socio-economic transformation while most citizens remain stuck in subsistence farming. He says families should move from growing food for themselves and engage in producing for the market to boost their household incomes.

President Museveni further cautioned the populace against waiting to be employed by the government, urging that the government jobs are few and cannot solve the problem of unemployment.

Robinah Nabbanja, the Prime Minister of Uganda, says the NRM government has initiated several projects in the Bunyoro sub-region, citing the construction of the critical oil roads, Kabalega International airport, and Hoima city stadium, as well as electricity connectivity, and rallied the people of Bunyoro to support the NRM government since it is the only party with a visionary leader.

Fred Matovu, the NRM Chairperson for Kibaale district, tasked the president to establish vocational schools in the district to enable youth in the district to attain vocational skills.

He further appealed to the president to establish an Industrial park in the district, which he says will help create jobs for youth and other people in the district.
