Police in Luwero District have launched investigations into a suspected case of arson after a fire gutted a house belonging to the Kikyusa Town Council LC3 chairperson, Paul Salabwa. According to Robert Mugula, the Wakivule Zone LC1 chairperson, the fire broke out at around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday at the mansion, which is still under construction, in Wakivule Zone, Kikyusa Town Council.

He revealed that for the past three days, a group of workers had been attempting to remove bees that had settled in the unfinished structure. Mugula suspects the workers may have left smoldering materials behind, which later ignited nearby timber.

Savannah Region Police spokesperson, Sam Twiineamazima, confirmed that preliminary findings show part of the building had been infested with bees. He said workers allegedly attempted to smoke out or burn the insects at around 6:00 p.m., but the fire quickly spread, engulfing the rest of the mansion.

Police officers, led by the Luwero District Police Commander (DPC), Brighton Ahimbisamukama, together with the fire brigade and forensic experts, responded promptly and managed to contain the blaze. In a statement, Twiineamazima noted that although the fire was brought under control, the damage was extensive, with the entire roof destroyed.

He added that investigators are also exploring another possible cause linked to ongoing family disputes, which may have played a role in the incident. He emphasized that this line of inquiry is being treated seriously. Police investigations remain ongoing to establish the exact cause of the fire and identify those responsible.
