The department of works and technical services Omoro district local government is battling challenges of roads maintenance this financial year 2025/2026, due to continuous breakdown of important equipment like wheel loader and grader.

Their report released for the first quarter of this financial year 2025/2026, show that there are a total of 81.9 kilometers roads already planned for rehabilitation both in Tochi Constituency and Omoro constituency amounting UGX 948,961,530, but due to the challenges most of these roads aren’t worked on.

Sukiri Ronald Chono, the secretary works and technical services Omoro district local government while presenting the report during a full council sitting recently, attributed the delayed repairs of their road equipment to flack of proper support from regional mechanical workshop.

“We were supposed to be supported under regional mechanical workshop work and transport, Gulu on road equipment maintenance butdespite several requests being made, all our tryes for wheel loader, grader are worn out and our attempt to purchase some under direct procurement have failed,” she said.

“We also made several requests to the ministry of works and transport for equipment support but in vain, letters were submitted to the permanent secretary ministry of works and transport, Kampala requesting for culverts, and to work on other roads all failed,” Sukiri said.

The department of works and technical services Omoro district local government had designed their work activities for this financial year 2025/2026 to work on 81.8 kilometers roads in both constituencies, which may now not happen.
