FUFA President Moses Magogo says not only the players but also the technical team and even support staff like the driver are part of the beneficiaries of President Yoweri Museveni’s 2.4 billion shillings reward to the Uganda Cranes, with each player confirmed to have received at least 60 million shillings. This was revealed during a cranes special dinner hosted by President Museveni, together with the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, at State House, Entebbe.

The celebratory dinner came shortly after the national team’s commendable performance in the recently concluded continental tournament, where their spirit and determination once again lifted the Ugandan flag high.
The President used the occasion not only to congratulate the players and technical team for their resilience but also to reaffirm government’s support for the growth of football in Uganda. In fulfillment of his earlier promise, President Museveni officially handed over UGX 2.4 billion to the Cranes, a package he described as essential motivation in strengthening the team’s morale and overall capacity.
“Motivation is an essential part of capacity building. As promised, we have fulfilled our pledge to the Cranes for their outstanding efforts,” the President emphasized, noting that proper incentives encourage players to give their best in service to the country.

Museveni’s Tactical Analysis of the Cranes
During the dinner, the President also shared his own reflections on the team’s recent encounter with Algeria, a match he and the First Lady followed keenly from Nakasero after his official duties. Drawing lessons from his military background, President Museveni highlighted the importance of organization and balance on the field of play.
“Every Force has an Area of Responsibility. When everyone goes on the offensive and leaves the defense and goalkeeper exposed, the opponent can easily exploit that gap,” he explained. His words echoed the tactical discipline required not just in football, but in all aspects of national service.
Nevertheless, he applauded the Cranes for their courage and fighting spirit throughout the tournament. “Tafadhali, our team’s efforts cannot go unappreciated. The Cranes fought valiantly,” the President remarked, drawing applause from the invited guests.

Commitment Through Cash Pledges
President Museveni further assured the Cranes of continued financial motivation linked to their success.
“Every win you achieve, I will give you UGX 1.2 billion,” he pledged, promising to reward every victory the team secures.
The President went on to reveal that UGX 30 million had already been deposited on every player’s account, as part of his direct support to the squad. With the additional pledges fulfilled, each player has now received at least UGX 60 million.
A State House official later confirmed that the money had indeed been wired to the players’ accounts, further exciting the team and technical bench.

Beyond Politics: A Commitment to Sports Development
The First Lady, Maama Janet Kataha Museveni, in her remarks, commended the Cranes for their determination and resilience, assuring them of her unwavering support as Minister of Education and Sports. She promised that government, through her ministry, would continue to invest in sports infrastructure, talent development, and welfare of athletes.
“This victory is proof that with proper preparation, motivation, and faith, Ugandans can achieve greatness. As government, we shall continue to prioritize sports as a tool of national pride and youth empowerment,” she said, stressing her commitment to ensuring the Cranes and other sports disciplines receive the backing they need to shine on the continental and global stage.
