Police in Arua district have arrested the NRM Registrar, Julius Abele, following allegations of issuing Declaration Forms to a candidate before the official designated time in the LCV NRM primary elections.

According to Police, the Registrar issued the DR forms in contravention of the district security committee which had previously resolved on specific guidelines and timeline.

The RDC Arua Swaib Toko ordered the arrest on Thursday after accusing him of corruption and misconduct.

Collins Asea, the Police Spokesperson for North and West Nile, confirmed the arrest of the registrar and said further investigations have been launched into the incident as the suspect remains in Police custody at Odumi in Vurra.

Toko has cautioned the NRM officials to desist from acts of corruption during the elections, warning that more arrests could be instituted.

Following the arrest of Abele, the Assistant Registrar has been tasked to take up his responsibilities. The main contestants in the LCV race for Arua District were incumbent Alfred Okuonzi and his Vice Cosmas Ayikobua.
