Three police officers and four civilians were on Friday injured in a violent confrontation in Kangole Town Council, Napak.

The incident occurred at 11pm when Police officers on patrol approached a group of people who were playing loud music and campaigning in the area. The violence erupted when the officers ordered the crowds to disperse and stop the music since it was past time.

As a result, the crowd turned violent and started pelting the police officers with stones injuring several of them.

Mike Longole, the Mt Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson explained that the police in self defense fired live bullets on the air in an attempt to disperse the crowd.

Longole noted that it in the process four civilians were injured by stray bullets.

Longole identified the civilians as Elijah Akol, Paul Losike, Simon Ilukol, and Badu all residents of Kangole town council

Longole declined to name the officers injured but insisted that both the officers and civilians who were injured were rushed to Kangole Health Centre III for treatment.

He noted that the aim of ending the event was for the security purposes but the crowds ignored the order and instead started attacking the officers.

He said that they have commenced investigations into the incident.

Longole revealed that they are also working around to identify those responsible for the violence.

“We condemn the violence and attacks on our officers who were simply performing their duties. We will work to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice and that peace is maintained in the community” Longole warned.

Longole appealed for calm and cooperation from the public as the investigations continues-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
