Vincent Chelimo, popularly known as DJ Vincent, a renowned presenter at Kapchorwa’s Trinity Radio, has declared his intention to contest for the LC5 Chairperson seat in Kapchorwa District in the 2026 general elections.
The 38-year-old, best known for his show The Evening Drive, which blends community affairs with entertainment, will be challenging incumbent Everline Chemutai Kubarika, who is serving her first term. Other contenders include Michael Kusuro, the LC5 councillor for West Division, and Abraham Kipmos, a prominent honey trader in Sebei.
Speaking to Uganda Radio Network (URN), Chelimo said his decision to join the race stems from concerns over poor service delivery and alleged corruption in the current leadership. He cited the lack of essential social services like education, healthcare, and the district’s poor road infrastructure.
Chelimo further accused the District Service Commission of selling jobs, a practice he claims is influenced by the current chairperson, in violation of public service standing orders.
A holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Kampala International University (KIU), Chelimo says his vision is to transform Kapchorwa by fighting corruption and improving service delivery. He revealed that he would pick the National Resistance Movement (NRM) nomination forms today, Monday, June 2, from the party’s headquarters in Kampala-URN.
