Kitgum District has unveiled a fresh, modern face following a UGX 78 million renovation of its district headquarters and the construction of a new security-enhancing gate—a development hailed as a milestone in the district’s pursuit of modernization and better service delivery.

The three-and-a-half-month project, executed by BN Investment Company Limited, was funded through the Discretionary Development Equalisation Grant (DDEG) for the 2024/2025 financial year. The renovation included extensive upgrades to office infrastructure and the erection of a sleek, contemporary gate at the district’s main entrance.

“This initiative reflects our commitment to aligning Kitgum with the government’s broader vision of improved local infrastructure,” said Arwai Christopher Obol, the Kitgum District Chairperson. “The new gate not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of our headquarters but also strengthens security, particularly by curbing rampant motorcycle thefts that had plagued the premises.”

Beyond appearances, Arwai emphasized that the renovation marks a turning point for the district’s operational efficiency. “We now have a more conducive working environment for our staff and a safer, more welcoming space for the public. This translates into better service delivery and a stronger connection between the district administration and the people we serve,” he added.

Local residents have welcomed the facelift with enthusiasm. Dorothy Stella, a resident of Langalanga Cell in Kitgum Municipality, said the revamped headquarters and modern gate are more than just brick and mortar. “They’re a symbol of progress. They show that Kitgum is ready to grow, to attract new opportunities, and to support the aspirations of its people.”

She noted that such visible improvements can instill civic pride and spur economic activity. “As the district continues to evolve, this infrastructure will play a crucial role in supporting development initiatives and creating a secure, professional atmosphere for public business.”
