The Aids Support Organization (TASO) Soroti Service Centre has traced and re-enrolled HIV clients.
Out of over 6,026 clients actively receiving care in the Teso Sub-region, a report indicated that 508 clients had gone missing in February 2025. TASO attributed this to various factors, including illness, work, and difficulties in collecting medication due to the distance to the facility.
However, the use of bicycles, 304 of the 508 clients have returned for care by the end of March. The bicycles are intended to support follow-ups on missing clients and mobilize others to maintain their treatment regimens, ensuring stable viral load levels. They were distributed by World Bicycle Relief at the end of last year.
The recipients of these bicycles include Community ART support agents, clan leaders, expert clients, adolescent girls and young women, as well as youth engaged in peer support.
Charles Odoi, the Centre Programs Manager at TASO Soroti, said that the distribution of bicycles has significantly improved the program, which has seen more clients return to care after missing appointments within just a year.
Christine Aruo, a member of the TASO staff working on the project, emphasized the importance of beneficiaries regularly updating them about the clients’ situations.
Hamza Ali, the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer from Buffalo Bicycles based in Lira, urged the beneficiaries to utilize the bicycles for their intended purpose.
