Residents of Amolatar and Dokolo districts are raising concerns over the deteriorating condition of the Dokolo–Ochero–Namasale road, a critical transport route linking the districts of Dokolo, Kaberamaido, Amolatar, and Nakasongola.
The road, under the jurisdiction of the central government, gained renewed importance following the temporary closure of the Karuma Bridge, as it serves as a key alternative route to Kampala via the Namasale–Nakasongola ferry crossing.
However, since last year, significant sections of the road have developed deep potholes, leading to increased travel delays and vehicle damage. The worsening state of the road has now forced travelers from Namasale in Amolatar District to divert through Kaberamaido District when heading to Lira, instead of using the shorter route through Ochero and Dokolo.
In addition to the central route’s challenges, district roads such as Aguludia–Anino-olal–Agoga and Opir–Nalibwoyo Landing Site have been submerged by the rising water levels of Lake Kyoga, severely affecting business operations and the movement of people, especially in low-lying communities-URN.
