Masindi district local government has embarked on the construction of 1.5 billion Shillings worth of access roads.
The roads will be constructed in the two sub-counties of Bwijanga and Kiruli under the National Oil Seed Project (NOSP). They are, Kiruli-Kikasa (2.8 km), Kyababyara-Nyakabaale (1.45 km), Nyakarongo-Nyakatoti (1.1km) and Kyandangi-Kyamaiso-Rwenjojo-Rwenziramire (11.5 km).
The contract for the construction of the gravel roads has been awarded to NATO Engineering Company Limited. The district has already signed a contract for the construction works with NATO Engineering Company Limited.
Eng. Joseph Sunday, the Project Manager, said the construction works will last for eight months, stating that the roads will be graded to full gravel.
Christine Sabiti, a resident of Kiruli sub-county, explains that, once completed, the roads will enable them to access government services such as markets, health facilities and schools. She applauded NOSP for initiating the road construction program in the district.
Robert Byabakama, a resident of Bwijanga sub-county, says that for decades, most roads in the area have not been rehabilitated. He has tasked the contractor to avoid shoddy work and ensure that value for money is realized.
Eddy Aguuda, the LCIII Chairperson of Kiruli Sub county, tasked the residents to own the project by jealously protecting and guarding equipment being used in the road construction works.
James Mudede, the LCIII Chairperson of Bwijanga Sub county, encouraged his electorate to properly utilize the roads to promote trade and commence to improve their household incomes.
Emmanuel Twesigye, the Director of NATO Engineering Company Limited, asked for cooperation from the community and local leaders to ensure the project’s successful completion.
Tappy Namulondo, the Masindi Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), explains that, upon completion, the roads will boost transportation of agricultural products to market centers and boost household income.
Cosmas Byaruhanga, the Masindi District LCV Chairperson, tasked the contractor to ensure that the road construction work is executed timely and should be finished within the agreed timeline of eight months.
