Joel Kigozi years ago (2016 to be exact) abandoned his longtime friend Kin Kariisa at NBS TV then based at Kamwokya for what he thought was greener pastures at Bulange Mengo where he became the founding CEO for BBS Terefayina.

He suggested, and Bulange-based management accepted, that the best way to ride on Kabaka’s good name and reputation, to disrupt and break into the very competitive advertising market, all corporate advertisement originally gets run for free for several months in order to win over big corporate advertisement deals. He deceptively told Kabaka’s officials at Mengo and the Banda Palace this is how they used to do it at NBS in its early days at Kamwokya.

What he did was treacherous as he embarked on a corporate advertisers-recruitment drive which saw him approach several big corporate companies and big advertising spenders, including Coca Cola based at Namanve.

Kigozi told top executives at Namanve that BBS Terefayina was a very big brand and even had some stats to back up his claims. He assured them it could only get better because the BBS brand was determined to keep leveraging Kabaka’s name to get more audience. A deal of Shs300m was inked with him representing the Bulange-based TV channel.

It was to air for 6 months and the guys at Bulange knew this was all free, only to learn later on from two Directors and Shareholders from the Namanve beverages firm that this was untrue. The Directors confided into one of the Kabaka key assistants about the Shs300m that had been paid for the advertisements. That is how Joel Kigozi’s cover was blown up. Sources say he was immediately summoned and when he failed to account for the Shs300m, he was immediately fired though he was allowed the dignity of disguising the same as an innocent resignation.

In actual sense, he was fired for that fraudulent conduct and that is how he ate a humble pie and went back to Kin Kariisa seeking to be given a job back at NBS where he was made Deputy CEO to Kin Kariisa but the truth is that the flamboyant Joel Kigozi was no longer the powerful figure he had been in the inaugural days of NBS TV.

FAST FORWARD:

BBEG media, which has been excellent at NBS scoops, has just reported that Joel Kigozi has once again been fired from the Naguru-based media empire over concerns related to underperformance. His post of deputy CEO had earlier on been scrapped rendering him unwanted and he has finally been knifed and sent off with a lousy ka-title of ‘consultant from outside.’

As he moves out, Kigozi is drying himself [okwekaza] by sending a farewell message on the next media staff WhatsApp group reading as “I’m incredibly proud of the impact we made together.” It’s further indicated that the relationship with Kin Kariisa began developing cracks as early as 2023 though it never became public.

And falling out with Kariisa simply meant that good-for-nothing Joel Kigozi’s days weren’t going to be many at the media park. The demoted Kigozi has been given the option of working with next media if he still wants but from outside which makes him a freelance employee who can be paid commission in case he brings in a deal.Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
