The police in Kakumiro have arrested 64 suspected criminals.   The operation was conducted jointly by the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces-UPDF and the police and other sister security agencies on Monday. The suspects include 45 males and 19 females.

They were arrested from Mwintazige town council following complaints from residents especially the business community regarding the escalating thefts and attacks by suspected criminals in the area.

Police have since concealed particulars of the suspects as they are still undergoing scrutiny by security.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson says that some of the suspects were found hiding in uncompleted structures while others were found smoking marijuana in groups and possession of machetes.

He says the suspects will be screened before they are arraigned before the court to be charged accordingly.

Charles Irumba, a resident of Mwintazige town council has tasked security in the district to conduct more operations to eliminate the increasing crime rate in the area.
