After City Square, Museveni Gives Bulwadda Nakivubo School land-Prime Six Acres in Kampala CBD!

Kampala Minister Minsa Kabanda this Thursday signaled the fact that the President has authorized young Kampala billionaire Hajji Hassan Bulwadda take over and redevelop the land currently housing the very dilapidated premises of Nakivubo Settlement Primary School.

This is one of Kampala’s longest-serving public primary schools in the league of the likes of Nakasero Primary, Kyaggwe Road primary school, Kitante primary school, the defunct Shimon, Buganda Road and others.

The idea is for Bulwadda (a renowned Kampala property mogul whose enormous State House connections have continued rattling feathers) to redevelop the six acres of this public school land into a shopping mall and a youth/women skilling center.

During her Thursday tour of the school premises, conducted in the presence of Bulwadda and a few state media journalists, Minsa Kabanda revealed that there are rival fraudulent property developers in Kampala who had fraudulently transferred more than 1.5 acres of this same school land and had it titled into their names.

Some of these are politicians and during the tour, Minsa Kabanda revealed that the President has directed that these leaders be investigated and criminally prosecuted to pave way for his blue-eyed boy Hassan Bulwadda to take vacant possession.

The big man will be satisfied to have the Bulwadda sprawling commercial complex expeditiously erected for the skyline and scenery of that part of Kampala to rapidly change. The locus is located within the neighborhood of Nakivubo, Owino Market and the Taxi Park.

This is the second public land give-away the President has pronounced himself over in favor of Hassan Bulwadda in a space of just weeks. Very recently, it was City Square whose redevelopment proposal the President introduced to Kampala Minister Minsa Kabanda. The President demonstrated his fondness of Bulwadda as he introduced the redevelopment proposal to Minsa Kabanda.

In his letter, whose contents have since been amplified by key public figures including Gen Proscovia Nalweyiso, the President instructed Minsa Kabanda to put together a committee of key stakeholders to study the whole thing and advise him on the viability of the $125m redevelopment project Bulwadda is proposing to erect at the current City Square.

Besides Nalweyiso and some City elected Councilors, Bulwadda’s proposal has also got support from some Cabinet Ministers and senior Presidential Assistants like Dr. Hillary Musoke Kisanja who is also a University don. There are also groups of youths and women leaders who recently addressed reporters in Kampala declaring total support for the proposed transformation of the City Square.

There has been muted opposition from stakeholders like a group of lawyers who were led by senior counsel Peter Walubiri and a few bold elected leaders like the Kampala Lord Mayor Ronald Balimwezo Nsubuga. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com.
