Army prosecutors have asked the General Court Martial in Makindye for more time to complete investigations into a firearms case against Amos Rwangomani, a brother to Water and Environment Minister Gen Kahinda Otafiire.
Prosecution told the court on Wednesday that investigators were still addressing gaps in the case file, prompting the court to adjourn the matter to November 4, 2026.
Lt Regina Nanzala, who led the prosecution, told the court, presided over by Col Fredrick Kangwamu, that investigators had returned the file to the investigations team to address outstanding issues.
She asked the court to give investigators more time to complete their work and submit an updated file. Rwangomani’s lawyer, Capt Daniel Kagombe, did not oppose the request.
The court consequently adjourned the case to November 4, when prosecutors will report on the progress of the investigations.
Rwangomani, 56, works as a supervisor with Kamed Security Company and faces three counts under the Uganda People’s Defence Forces Act. He is currently out on bail.
Prosecutors allege that in October 2025, Rwangomani possessed a pistol marked G 259085 at Mulago Business Centre in Kampala.
They say the firearm remains restricted to the Defence Forces and that Rwangomani did not have lawful authority to possess it. Prosecutors also accuse him of unlawfully possessing a second pistol bearing serial number PSO BO 19687-08980.
The third count accuses him of possessing 10 rounds of pistol ammunition at the same location and around the same period. Prosecutors brought the charges under Section 158(2)(c) of the UPDF Act, which criminalises unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
The charge sheet lists Rwangomani as a resident of Kickwamba Village, Kalaro Parish, Kyeizooba Sub-county, Igara County in Bushenyi District.
Although Rwangomani is a civilian, prosecutors have brought him before the military court under Section 117A(1)(e) of the UPDF Act. His case has also drawn attention because of the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
Rwangomani went missing in August 2025 after he was allegedly abducted by members of the military at Mulago Business Centre. Authorities later produced him before the General Court Martial earlier this year, where he faced the firearms charges. The court subsequently granted him bail as prosecutors continued their investigations-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
