The Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in coordination with the UPDF and local leaders has registered two recoveries of suspected stolen livestock on 30th September and 1st October 2026.
The first recovery was on 1st October in Katakwi District, where three heads of cattle were recovered and one suspect arrested. A team from the Animal Check Point Squad Teso recovered the three cattle at Abaratta Cattle Market in Katakwi District on suspicion that they had been stolen. One suspect was arrested and identified as Peter Obuya, 21, a resident of Acinga Village, Acowa Sub-county in Kapelebyong District.
The rightful owner of the animals is yet to be identified, with preliminary information indicating the animals were stolen from within the suspect’s home area. The suspect and exhibits are in custody for further management and investigations. The second recovery and handover of five cattle was registered in Nakapiripirit District.
On 30th September 2026 at around 4:45pm, information was received through the local leadership of Tokora Sub-county that five heads of cattle were being driven by suspected Karamojong warriors from Kobyion in Loregae Sub-county towards Namalu Seed Secondary School grazing area in Nakale.
A joint team of UPDF from Doctors Corner Detach and ASTU from Nadip Detach responded. The warriors abandoned the animals and fled after a community alarm. All five animals were recovered and secured at Kakomongole ASTU Zonal Headquarters at 10:00pm.
