In his Monday interview with youtuber Aggrey Baba, Kampala mayor Salim Uhuru who is also a CEC member of NRM explained what it felt like being caught at Anita Among’s home on the day the former speaker’s residence was besieged by the military men.
That was in May at the beginning of Among’s problems because her home was declared crime scene, searched and her cars towed away. Uhuru was filmed struggling to escape from the compound on a boda boda.
He told the youtuber in their morning live-streamed interview on tik tok that he felt very scared and feared he was going to be arrested.
But the military commanders were kind and only asked him to leave the premises. He says he doesn’t regret being there for a friend.
Uhuru says he had rushed to the home after getting reports that Anita Among, a fellow CEC member he had known and campaigned with since September last year, was under attack.
Uhuru says that as a true friend, he tried to ring but Among wasn’t answering his phone calls. He decided to run there on a rescue mission only to realize the force wanting him out was very big and he had to flee for his dear life.
He said he did this to show that he was a genuine friend to Among who he says is a very good person who deserved support from friends during her hour of need. Uhuru said he feels bad to see a good person like Anita Among is being deserted even by people she helped to occupy the big offices they sit in today.
He says there is a lot all politicians should learn from Anita Among’s grace-to-grass story. He says in his case, that is why he is always humble and never uses the public office he has to mistreat others because things can change in a very short time.
