
Court has started the hearing of a case in which the Ankole National Unity Platform Coordinator, Bright Muhumuza.
Muhumuza is accused of two counts; committing a rash and negligent act, and failing to comply with a police officer’s directives. He on Thursday appeared before Grade One Magistrate Ochieng Yafesi, where the state presented two witnesses that included, the Mbarara City Central Police Commander Kenneth Gumisiriza Kabwigo.
Muhumuza, who is out on bail remained calm and composed as his lawyers cross-examined the Police Commander as the first witness and also the complainant in the case.
Muhumuza who was a candidate for the Mbarara City South Division Parliamentary seat under the NUP ticket was abducted on the 13th January 2025, while distributing agents’ appointment letters and facilitation. He later resurfaced in court custody, appeared, and was remanded before being granted bail.
According to the charge sheet, Muhumuza is accused of driving a motor vehicle, registration number UAY, in a manner considered rash or negligent and likely to cause harm to the Mbarara City Division Deputy Police Commander (DPC), SP Kenneth Kabwigo Gumisiriza.
The alleged incident is said to have occurred on November 8, 2025, at Kyamugorani Cell in Mbarara City North, along Kyamugorani Road near Rad Motel.
The state alleges that on November 8, 2025, at Kyamugorani Cell in Mbarara City, Muhumuza drove a white Toyota Prado (registration number UAY) in a rash and negligent manner, endangering Mbarara City Police Divisional Commander, Kenneth Kabwigo Gumisiriza, near Rad Motel on Kyamugorani Road.
On the second count, the prosecution alleges that he failed to comply with lawful directives from a uniformed police officer at the same time and place.
