The Busia grade one magistrate, Specioza Avako, has today remanded a prominent businessman to Masafu prison for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old pupil. The suspect has been identified as 48-year-old Abangi Ramadhan, a resident of Nangwe Madibira village in the Western division of Busia Municipality. He deals in different businesses at the Busia border and is a landlord with several buildings in Busia town.
It’s reported that the accused was arrested red-handed with a 14-year-old girl. He allegedly committed the crime in the morning of Friday, 12th June this year. The suspect has today appeared before Specioza Avako, the Busia grade one magistrate, who remanded him for 14 days in Masafu prison.
According to Avako, the suspect will appear for next court hearing before Thomas Okoth, the area Chief Magistrate, on 25th June 2026. Arafat Hassan, the Busia district youth councillor, condemned the act of a mature man to defile a P.4 pupil. He said that they want the law to take its course amicably so that the child can get justice.
According to Hassan, the suspect has been of that character for some time, and his 40 days are done. George Barasa, the chairperson of Busia Municipality LC1 and LC2 chairpersons’ association, said that they were shocked by the information that an adult of 48 years defiling a 14-year-old pupil.
Atim, the officer attached to the Community Services directorate, which is under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, condemned the act of a mature managed 48 years to defile a 14-year-old pupil that it abuses the rights of children. She appealed to the public to always observe the law and use their offices to advocate for community service court penalties.

In the related concern, another man identified as 31-year-old Kato Sam, aka Kanyankole, a resident of Busiwondo village in Dabani sub-county, has been remanded for allegedly killing a police officer identified as Sargent Florance Magoba, who was attached to Busia Central Police Station. It’s reported that Florence Magoba was murdered by the suspect in the wee hours on 12th June 2026 over yet to be disclosed reasons-URN.
