Regarding the arrest of former Mayor Elias Lukwago, allegedly by Commander of Defense Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Museveni’s son. A lot of people have been making comments and, all of a sudden, mentioning my late father, President Idi Amin, in something that he is not even responsible for.

He is not even here. So, I am a bit perturbed by this sort of association of his name into other people’s actions. If you want to know what the Amin position is on such an incident, the first thing is: what is he arrested for?

What exactly is the crime? And by that, I mean, in the laws of Uganda, what crime has he committed? Of course, what is the evidence of that crime?

And that is what should be made public. Even if he is released for one reason or another, there must be clarity on exactly what it was that he was arrested for as pertains to crimes in the criminal law of Uganda, so that it is clear that he was not arrested out of any abuse, by the way.

Yes, and that is the stand. You cannot arrest anybody without having clear reasons, legal reasons to do so. And that is especially a crime which must be in the laws of Uganda with its either punishment or whatever. So, that is the stand that we have, and we ask all the public to be patient and get those details.

Even the country’s foreign partners, who sometimes are concerned about these issues. Why they are concerned is another issue for another debate. But I call on everyone to be patient and get the information about what exact crime did the former Lord Mayor Elias Lukwago commit, and we move from there-Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
