The territorial police at Nyakatonzi Police Station, in Kasese District, are investigating a violent incident involving the injury of several animals at Nyamatungo village, Kinyamaseke Town Council.

According to reports, on June 14th, around 4:00 PM, a group of approximately 30 armed individuals invaded a grazing area where cattle owned by Kakuzanisa Georgia and Alex Musinguzi were peacefully grazing in a maize garden.

The attackers, armed with pangas, spears, and arrows, reportedly beat the animals before fleeing the scene. Elly Maate, the Rwenzori East Police Spokesperson, says that, during the attack, about 17 cattle were injured, adding that the two herdsmen managing the herd managed to escape unharmed.

He said police officers responded to the scene, documented the incident, and are working to establish the motives and identify those responsible.

Authorities have urged members of the community to avoid acts of lawlessness and to report any incidents or concerns to the police or relevant authorities instead of taking the law into their own hands. The police have assured the public that they are committed to bringing the suspects to justice once identified-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
