The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) is set to terminate the construction contract for Lango Palace, valued at 3.5 billion shillings, currently held by CMD Investment Limited. The move follows the contractor’s abandonment of the site after receiving a government down payment of 900 million shillings after the construction work began in 2024.

Yerosa Nyangoma, Assistant Commissioner in Charge of Procurement and Disposal at OPM, confirmed recently during her visit in Lango that the termination process is underway. She explained that the Permanent Secretary has written to the Solicitor General for guidance before final action is taken.

Eng. Geoffrey Enen Okello, a member of the contracts management team representing the Lango Cultural Institution, revealed that CMD subcontracted another local company to begin work, but progress stalled due to non‑payment of workers. He noted that the institution has long pushed for termination of the contract, citing repeated delays.

Willy Kagere Omodo, Speaker of the Lango Cultural Institution, accused CMD of causing unnecessary delays in completing the palace. According to Omodo, despite receiving substantial payments, CMD is demanding additional funds while the community suffers from stalled progress.

The delays have also drawn the attention of the Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers, led by Eng. Dr. Anania Mbabazi, who recently conducted a fact‑finding mission at the site following complaints from cultural leaders. The institution is expected to issue its ruling on the matter on 18 June 2026.

The Ugandan Government earmarked 3.5 billion shillings for the construction of Lango Complex building. The 3. 5billion project will include an administration block, a Cultural Center and a Palace for the Cultural Institution. The 18-month project has been a long outstanding pledge by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to the administration of Lango Cultural Leaders-URN.
