Christians who wish to have their names inscribed on the newly built cathedral in Kasese Catholic Diocese will have to part with some money. The Bishop of Kasese Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Aquirinus Kibira Kambale made the announcement, revealing plans to allow believers within the diocese to have their names permanently inscribed inside the cathedral upon its completion.
The initiative, he said, is intended to honor the contributions and legacies of Christians, ensuring that their names are preserved for generations. Bishop Kibira explained that participants will be required to pay a fee based on the square footage of space they wish to dedicate. He noted that the idea is inspired by grand church traditions in Rome and is meant to remind future generations of their faith heritage.
“Your grand and great-grandchildren will come here and say, ‘This was our grandfather; he was part of this church,’” the Bishop told Christians during Martyrs Day celebrations held at the diocese on Wednesday. The funds raised through the inscription programme are expected to support the continued development and maintenance of the cathedral.
In addition, Bishop Kibira revealed plans to improve the church’s musical and worship experience by separating the choir from the main congregation area. Under the proposal, the choir will perform from the second floor of the cathedral during services, with their music projected downwards to uplift worshippers below. He added that choir members’ placement on the second floor will depend on their dedication and level of prayerfulness before services.
The Bishop called upon Christians to continue supporting the ongoing construction, which is now in its final phase, expressing confidence that the collective effort will see the cathedral completed despite earlier doubts.
