Rukungiri District Local Government is set to recruit more than 80 workers in the 2026/2027 financial year following the approval of the district recruitment plan by the district council. The recruitment plan for Rukungiri District Local Government Vote 924 for FY 2026/2027 was approved last week during a district council session chaired by District Speaker James Turyamubona.

The motion was tabled before the council by the Secretary for Finance, Planning and Administration, Hon. Gideon Ntungura. According to a document seen by our reporter and signed by Rukungiri District LCV Chairperson Geoffrey Kyomukama and witnessed by Chief Administrative Officer Frederick Byekwaso, the district plans to recruit workers in various departments aimed at improving service delivery.

Under the Local Government department, the district plans to recruit one District Engineer, one District Planner, one Senior Records Officer, one Civil Engineer for Water, one Senior Assistant Secretary for the Land Board, and two Senior Accounts Assistants. In the Education department, the district intends to recruit six primary school headteachers, two deputy headteachers, 11 Senior Education Assistants, and 50 Education Assistant IIs.

The Health department will recruit one Assistant District Health Officer in charge of Maternal and Child Health (ADHO-MCH), two Enrolled Midwives, one Pharmacist, one Laboratory Technician, three Enrolled Nurses, two Porters, one Human Resource Officer, and one Nursing Officer. The Trade and Industry department will recruit one Wildlife Officer. The recruitment plan also seeks to address staffing gaps in town councils.

Bikurungu Town Council will recruit a Senior Engineering Officer, a Physical Planner, and a Human Resource Officer. Buyanja Town Council plans to recruit one Assistant Engineering Officer, while Rwerere Town Council will recruit one Assistant Engineering Officer and one Human Resource Officer. District leaders say the recruitment exercise is expected to strengthen service delivery and address staffing shortages in key sectors including education, health, engineering, and administration across the district-URN.
