Government Enforces Mandatory Inspection of Passenger Buses

Passenger bus operators have begun presenting their vehicles for mandatory inspection at the Namanve Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre following a recent government directive aimed at improving road safety.

The exercise, overseen by the Ministry of Works and Transport, is intended to ensure that all passenger buses meet required safety and roadworthiness standards before operating on public roads.

Officials say the inspections are focusing on critical components such as braking systems, tyres, lighting, and overall mechanical condition of the vehicles.

The initiative is part of broader efforts to reduce road crashes associated with mechanical failure and enhance the safety of passengers and other road users.

The Ministry has pledged to continue guiding and monitoring the process to ensure full compliance across the transport sector.

Authorities emphasised that safer vehicles are key to achieving safer journeys and protecting lives on Uganda’s roads.
