Uganda has stepped up efforts to attract tourists and investors from Northern Europe, hosting a tourism symposium in Copenhagen that brought together stakeholders from Uganda and the Nordic region.

The Uganda–Danish/Nordic Tourism Symposium, held at the Scandic Spectrum Hotel on March 25, 2026, was organised by the Embassy of Uganda in Copenhagen. The event drew tourism players, investors and destination management companies to explore opportunities in Uganda’s tourism sector.

The meeting focused on building sustainable tourism partnerships, with an emphasis on positioning Uganda as a competitive eco-tourism destination.

Promoting Destination Uganda

Uganda’s Ambassador to Copenhagen, Margaret M. Otteskov, said the symposium was aimed at marketing Uganda and strengthening ties with Nordic tourism operators.

She encouraged destination management companies in the region to take interest in promoting Uganda, describing the country as safe for travel and investment.

Focus on Investment and Sustainability

Participants pointed to Uganda’s tourism potential, citing its wildlife, cultural diversity and improving connectivity. Opportunities were highlighted across eco-tourism, hospitality and transport.

The symposium also featured community-based tourism initiatives, cultural exchange programmes and new tourism products aimed at improving visitor experience while supporting sustainability.

Partnerships and Market Access

The event closed with business-to-business meetings and a cultural showcase, with participants expressing interest in partnerships and joint marketing of Uganda in the Nordic market.

Uganda is seeking to grow arrivals from Europe by tapping into niche segments such as eco-tourism and experiential travel.
