A 13-year-old boy has died in Napak District after allegedly consuming poisoned waragi. The deceased, identified as Aaron Sagal, reportedly returned home from grazing animals on the afternoon of 26 July 2026 and found waragi in the house.
He is alleged to have consumed the local alcoholic drink before suddenly developing severe complications. He was rushed to Lorengedwat Health Centre III for treatment and was later referred to Matany Hospital. However, he died while being transported to the facility.
His body was subsequently returned to his home. The incident occurred in Nakayot Village, Iriri Sub-county. Following Sagal’s death, relatives allegedly attacked a 20-year-old man, identified only as Nangiro, a resident of Nakayot Village.
He was severely beaten in what police describe as a revenge attack and is currently admitted to Namalu Health Centre IV in critical condition.
Mt Moroto Regional Police spokesperson Mike Longole confirmed the incidents, saying a case of suspected murder by poisoning had been registered at Iriri Police Station.
Longole said police have not yet visited the scene because heavy rainfall has rendered the area inaccessible. “We have launched investigations into the suspected poisoning to establish the exact cause of Sagal’s death, and we are also investigating those who attacked Nangiro, who is currently receiving treatment,” Longole said.
He appealed to members of the public to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands. “Anyone with information that may assist the investigations should report to the nearest police station,” he added-URN.
