At least 4,856 registered voters in Ragem Sub-county, Pakwach District, will not cast ballots in the general elections scheduled for Wednesday, February 4, 2026, after all elective positions at the sub-county level were filled unopposed.
The District Returning Officer, Sarah Nabukeera, confirmed that no voting will take place in Ragem Sub-county, adding that elections will only be conducted where contests exist. She noted that the district received 181 ballot boxes for 181 active polling stations, out of 206 gazetted stations, due to several unopposed races.
Similarly, Nabukeera said that in Panyango Sub-county, voting will occur in three out of seven parishes, as the Sub-county Chairperson position is also unopposed.
In Ragem Sub-county, Vice Chairperson Kitara Molly Nyakumba explained that many aspirants withdrew after losing the NRM primaries, choosing not to contest as independents, leaving several positions unopposed. He added that he also stepped aside after failing to secure the party flag for the Sub-county Chairperson seat.
Meanwhile, Opio Esau, who has held the Panyango Sub-county LC3 chairperson’s seat for ten years, said his unopposed candidacy reflects voter confidence, the work accomplished during his first term, and his landslide victory in the NRM primaries.
